Richard (aka Ventje, Tjien Hiong) Young

Richard Young.  The Head of the family.  The Big Chief. The Great Chef. King Richard.  The Heart and Soul of the Young Family over the years.

After High School in Jakarta, at the age of 17 Richard went to China by himself and studied at the Beijing University.   Richard studied  in China and Russia and got a Bachelor and PhD degree in Computer Science.

Richard is a deep thinker (Above), a man with principle and vision. He can foresee what will happen in the future. After working as a Senior Research Fellow at the China Academy of Sciences for some time in China, Richard moved to Hong Kong in 1972, and that is where he started his family.  After Will and Eddie were born, Richard quit his job as a General Manager in Hong Kong and moved to beautiful Vancouver, Canada, for freedom and better life in 1977. Richard says " while new immigrants say that they bring six zeros ( Million Dollars) enter Canada, I say that I only bring ONE BIG ZERO ( head ) for Canada, that is knowledge, culture, science and technology".

The Young Family Traditional Pose. Richard has spent the last 27 years in Canada raising his family and we all thank him for it! We  appreciate him for his influence and guidance on hard studying, hard working, responsibility, principle of life, love family, children and friends.

Richard is now enjoying being retired in Richmond, British Columbia.   He spends many of his hours reading, swimming, walking, gardening, cooking, travelling and surfing the internet.  He enjoy making friends. Richard is active in the Overseas Chinese Communities in the world. He is the Vice Chairman of the World Organization of Overseas Chinese  He is also  the Honourable Advisor of the China-Canada Science and Technology Society. He may be a retired Computer Specialist, but he still has his love for technology and computers.

Richard was invited for the China State Banquet on the National Day in Beijing, China, 2002 by the Government of Peoples Republic of China.
